July 4th Celebration service Project and fundraiser - Schedule -  Thursday - Arrive at  Fleitcher Park at 8:00pm.   Flashlights and sleeping bags.  - Be Prepared for rain!    We will leave at 8:00 t0 9:00am on Friday and return by 3:00 pm - Friday .  Night duty to start at 1:00am !

Thanks to all Scouts who attended the Memorial Day Ceremony .  Troop 555 is greatful to be able to be a part of this tradition.  We had a great time at Flux Canyon and Red Rock Lookout after the ceremonies also !

 

Congratulations to Alex Mtz.  !   Our newest  Star Rank Scout !  Successfully passed his Star Board on Wednesday Night!

 

Congratulations to Manny V.  Troop 555’s newest Eagle Scout !   Was presented with his Eagle Badge in front of our sponsors - The Nogales Lions’ Club on Tuesday, May 13th.

Cross-Over campout and to be held on april 5 - same location as last year!  We have 18 new members coming into out troop !

Webelos invitational meeting - Feb. 19th.   From 7:00pm to 9:00pm.  The Theme will be “Backpacking”.  An informational night of backpacking equipment and prep demonstrations for webelos scouts.   This will fulfill the requirements for the webelos badge on visiting a scout meeting.  All triple nickel scouts are to arrive early please (6:00 to 6:30) for set-up.

 

Salt River Whitewater raft trip deposits are now being taken.   Trip limited to 1st 50 scouts for rafting and Duckies for  scouts over 16 yrs old.  Don’t miss-out.  Get your deposits in now!   (for more details, see our calendar and also the info sheet under the  “forms and Info” tab on the left side of the home page.

 

Our Sunrise Ski Trip is now Closed-off at 16 people.  This is the smallest group that we have taken to sunrise in the last 18 years!   But it’s going to be a blast !  Lots of new snow  has fallen this week bring the level to over 6 feet of snow.

 

Fire by Flint and Steel - This meeting Feb. 5th.  Bring your  pocket knives and Class “b” Uniform !

Last Chance Advancement for Ski Trip - First Aid on Saturday and Map and Compass on Sunday !  Dont miss this last opportunity !

54 Inches of New Snow and more on-the way at Sunrise!  This is going to make for a great ski-season and also a great white-water season coming up!  (We are signed-up for whitewater on April 26th!

The Christmas Parade Hot Chocolate Fundraiser Headquarters had to be moved this year because of conflicts with a new coffee house that had opened up.  Although we sold lots of hot chocolate, we didn’t do as well as last year due to the small amount of scouts who showed up to help sell.  

 

Troop  555 hosted Den 4 to the Hidden Cave this last Saturday, Dec. 8.  It was a great opportunity for the Bear Scouts to experience real caving adventure.  Big thanks to the 555 scouts who came along to help-out!

 

Last Map & Compass course for the year  was held on Sunday, Dec. 9th.  Six more scouts are now ready for their boards and qualification for the ski  trip.  Good Job!.

 

31st Annual Tumacacori Service  Project was a blast !    13 scouts  + adults had a great time (Click Here for Photos)

 

Order of the Arrow Brotherhood Candidates - WE Leave TO THE Double-V Scout Ranch after school on Friday Nov. 30.  Dress for the weather !   I will have a larger tent available.   We will be done early on Saturday!   (Click Here for Photos)

Annual “Pre-Thanksgiving - What do we do with all those Thanksgiving Left-over” Cookoff was great !    We had several new concoctions that I had never tried before.  One was “Imitation Seafood Salad” using white turkey meet (See Photo of the Week).  Happy Thanksgiving to all scouts and their parents !

Mountain Lion Encounters - Special “Thank You” to Shiela Beck at  Lake Patagonia Visitors center.  She put on a fantastic presentation on “Mountain Lions and what to do if you encounter one. This last Thursday, Nov. 1..

 

Leonid meteor shower campout - november 16, 17 and 18th.  (Tradition).  Location to be announced.  

 

The Black Canyon /Topock Gorge Canoe trip was a great success !   Everytime we do this trip it gets better !  A trip report will be done as soon as our SPL and Historian agree what to write up!   See  all of our photos (lots more to arrive this week)  in our Photo album.   I will post photos as I receive them.  Advancement is now the name of the game. Before our next campout.

 

OUR SINCEREST CONDOLENCES TO RENE , MARTINA, CYNTHIA, ALEX AND ANDRES MARTINEZ ON THE LOSS OF  RENE’S MOTHER “DONIA IRMA”.   She passed-away Thursday morning, October 4th.   Irma was the sweetest person you would ever hope to meet and only had nice things to say about everybody.  She had led a very full life with her trip to spain this year as  a highlight!   I’m sure that she is going to be greatly missed, but she is in a better place now.   Our prayers are with her and her family during this difficult time.

MANDATORY  MEETING FOR ALL SCOUTS AND ADULTS ATTENDING THE BLACK CANYON TRIP.  TUESDAY  7:30PM SHARP  !

 

Final  payments for black canyon canoe trip are now due. !  Turn in release and final payments this Tuesday.

 

Know your Knots !  Guantlet running again next week by popular demand.  Bring a towel if you can’t tie your knots very fast !

 

Think  that your a good pyro?  Compete against the best tonight.  Bring your pocket knife and Tote ‘n Chip Card.

 

Ethnic (other than mexican)  meal cookoff this Tuesday night !  $1.00 per person into the pot.  Judges to consist of  district scout leaders.  Bar-B-Q grills and stoves will be provided for each patrol.  You bring the rest (including clean-up items).  Good luck patrols!  (See Photos Here)

 

Order of the arrow ceremony on Friday and Saturday september 7th and 8th.  Mt lemmon.   We will leave after school on Friday.

 

Aha CPR COURSE FOR DEN 8 WEBELOS WAS FRIDAY AUG. 31.   BIG THANKS TO JORGE WHO CAME TO HELP WITH THE TRAINING!

 

American Heart Association CPR Certification course - Monday - May 27th.  At the VFW.  5:00 PM to 9:00 pm.

 

5th Canoeing MB session was held on Sunday.  Some members of girl scout troop 1829 attended also. See Photos in our photo album!

 

4th Canoe Merit badge course  was held this last Saturday, Aug. 25th .  The weather held out and  twelve more Triple  nickel scouts almost have their canoeing merit badge..  We are running another course  tomorrow and have invited girl scout troop 1829 to earn theri canoeing badge also.  

 

Fall trip - Black CANYOn canoe trip -  Oct . 6th thru Oct. 10th.   Limited to 50 People on this trip !!  fly to las vegas, 2 days of canoeing on the colorado river starting at hoover dam. Las vegas activities -  Total cost about $350.00 but price could come down.   Airline deposit of $100.00 due by aug.21.  See more details under triple-nickel currents

 

No Troop meeting until aug. 14.   1st meeting back.

 

Bike meeting - about 25 troop 555 scouts and adults met at the vfw last week for a bike ride around town - It was a nice change of pace..  We will continue with the cycling merit badge

Canoeing merit badge - 1st course  ran on june 16.  7 new scouts earned the best part of  a partial merit badge..  You need this course to be able to attend the canoe trip in september !   Courses Limited to 12 scouts  each.  Next course in mid-july.  Stay tuned.

Location of June 12 meeting WILL BE AT THE CITY REC CENTER POOL.  6:00PM TO 9:00 PM.  HOHOKAM DRIVE..  SWIMMERS TEST, TENDERFOOT AND SECOND CLASS SWIM TEST, SWIMMING MERIT BADGE + general swimming WILL BE STARTED TODAY.   $5.00 PER PERSON TO COVER COST OF POOL RENTAL AND SNACKS/DRINKS..   Bring long pants without holes, a long-sleeve button-up shirt shirt and old shoes that can get wet along with your swim trunks.

The members of Troop 555 offer our sincerest condolences to charles and his family on the passing of his grandfather, Charlie Bigelow.  He was a long-time nogalian, outdoorsman and just a great guy!  I’m sure he will be missed greatly.

Best Mex Campfood cook-off was a big success!!   Every patrol cooked exceptional mexican food that could be prepared on a grill or camp stove..  Andre A.’S  Patrol Patrol took first place !  Big thanks to John Bache-Wiig,  Martin Taylor,  Jimmy Camacho,  Simon and Mary Keller and Victor for being our judges this evening!

Water Tank Removal Service Project Camp was a big success !  Triple Nickel scouts worked very hard and finally took down the old water tank below apache south campsite at camp lawton .   High winds and a little rain didn’t deter our activities either.  See photos under our photo album and a small write-up under Troop Currents !

Map and Compass training and hike was last Sunday.  Only 4 scouts  took advantage of this course this time.. !
